Ostrožac Castle
Overview
Ostrožac Castle is a fortress dating to the 13th century, situated in a village near Bihać. It came under Ottoman rule and was later rebuilt in the early 20th century. Travellers visit to explore the surviving stone ramparts, towers, and the distinct Austro-Hungarian manor within the complex.
Getting There
The fortress is located about 12 km northeast of central Bihać. Driving or taking a taxi takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes. Regional buses travelling toward Cazin can drop passengers near the village, followed by a brief uphill walk.
Visiting Time
Allow 1 to 2 hours to walk the grounds, explore the defensive walls, and tour the open courtyards.
When to Go
Spring through autumn provides the best conditions for walking the outdoor paths. The fortress rarely gets crowded, though weekend afternoons are slightly busier. Morning or late afternoon is ideal during hot summer days.
