Pelican Island

Pelican Island was a small, uninhabited landmass located off the western coast of Bridgetown. According to historical records, it once formed part of the local coastline but has since disappeared. Because the island no longer exists as a physical destination, travelers visit the area to observe the coastal geography and the historical changes to the Bridgetown shoreline.

Getting There

The site is located on the western edge of Bridgetown. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short taxi ride or a local bus trip, typically taking about 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Duration of Visit

Since the island is no longer a landmass to explore, a brief stop of 30 to 60 minutes is sufficient to view the coastal area and the surrounding waters.

When to Visit

The area is best visited during the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. There are no specific seasonal restrictions, though visitors should be mindful of weather conditions during the Atlantic hurricane season.

Nearby Attractions

The location can be combined with other sites in the western part of the city. Nearby points of interest include:

  • Jama Mosque (1.2km)
  • Indian River (1.8km)
  • Madina Mosque (1.9km)
  • Constitution River (2.1km)
