Holy Name Cathedral, Brisbane

Holy Name Cathedral

This site consists of the crypt of a cathedral that was intended to be the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. Construction ceased during the Great Depression, leaving the main structure unfinished. Visitors go here to see the remaining underground portion of the building and the architectural plans for the project that was never completed.

Getting There

The site is located within the Brisbane city centre. It is accessible via a short walk from the central business district, typically taking less than 10 minutes depending on your starting point.

Visit Duration

Because only the crypt is available for exploration, most visitors spend between 30 and 60 minutes on-site.

When to Visit

The crypt provides a quiet environment regardless of the season. It is generally not crowded, making it a suitable stop for those seeking a calm atmosphere away from the main shopping and tourist districts.
