Markt is a public square spanning roughly one hectare in the center of Bruges. It serves as a focal point for the city, surrounded by prominent historic structures including the Provincial Court, Cranenburg House, and the belfry.

Getting There

As the central point of the historic district, the square is accessible on foot from anywhere in central Bruges within 5 to 10 minutes. Walking from the main Bruges railway station takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

Time to Allow

Allow 30 to 45 minutes to walk through the square, view the surrounding facades, and orient yourself before continuing to nearby sites.

When to Visit

The square gets crowded during midday hours, especially during summer and on weekends. Early morning and late evening visits provide a quieter experience with significantly fewer pedestrians and tour groups.
