Piața Unirii

Piața Unirii

Piața Unirii is a large public square in central Bucharest, located south of the old town. It is bisected by Unirii Boulevard and serves as a major transit hub and open space within the city. Travelers visit the area to observe the scale of the city's urban planning and to access the surrounding park areas.

Getting There

The square is located within the city center. Depending on your starting point in the central district, it is accessible via a short taxi ride or by using the Bucharest Metro (Unirii square is a primary interchange station). Walking from the Old Town takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Allow 30 to 60 minutes to walk through the square and its adjacent green spaces, unless you are using it primarily as a transit point to other destinations.

When to Visit

The square is open and accessible at all times. It becomes crowded during rush hour due to its role as a transportation hub and during weekends when locals use the park areas. Visiting during the spring or autumn avoids the extreme temperatures of the Romanian summer and winter.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, the square can be combined with several nearby sites within walking distance:

  • Lipscani: 0.4km
  • Stavropoleos Monastery: 0.5km
  • Romanian Patriarchal Cathedral: 0.5km
  • National Museum of Romanian History: 0.6km
