Chor Bakr Madrasah is a historic Islamic architectural complex situated just outside central Bukhara. Built in traditional regional style, the site includes a madrasah, a mosque, and a surrounding necropolis with enclosed courtyard tombs. Travellers visit to study preserved Central Asian brickwork, ornamental tile patterns, and the layout of an intact memorial ensemble outside the dense historic core.

Getting There

The complex is located approximately 6 kilometres west of central Bukhara. A local taxi from the Old City takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Shared minibuses also connect the western city edge with the surrounding district.

Plan to spend between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours on site. This allows adequate time to view the madrasah, explore the cemetery lanes, and inspect the main courtyards without rushing.

Spring and autumn offer the most moderate temperatures for walking around the outdoor grounds. In the summer, go in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid mid-day heat and direct sun exposure. The site is generally quiet and rarely feels crowded, though local visitors arrive on Fridays and during religious holidays.
