Gukje Market

What It Is

Gukje Market is an expansive traditional market in the Jung-gu district of Busan. Established after Korea's liberation, it developed into a major commercial hub known for carrying a wide variety of goods. Visitors go to experience its classic layout and browse dense rows of stalls selling clothing, household goods, hardware, souvenirs, and local street food.

Getting There

From central transport hubs like Busan Station, take Busan Metro Line 1 toward Jagalchi Station or Nampo Station. The subway ride takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. From either station, the market is a 5-minute walk from the exits.

Time to Allow

Plan to spend 1 to 2 hours walking through the main alleys and sampling food. Allow additional time if you plan to search through specific specialty rows or browse vintage clothing stalls.

When to Visit

The market becomes crowded on weekend afternoons and public holidays. Visiting on weekday mornings or early afternoons allows for easier navigation through the narrow pathways. Because the alleys are covered by arcade roofs, the market can be visited comfortably in any season and during rainy weather.
