El Mataria
Located in eastern Cairo, this district contains the ruins of Heliopolis, one of the oldest cities in ancient Egypt. Visitors go here to see the archaeological remains of this early civilization, including the site of the ancient sun temple.
Getting There
The site is accessible from Cairo city centre via taxi or ride-sharing apps. Depending on the current traffic conditions in the city, the journey typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes.

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the ruins and view the available archaeological traces.
When to Visit
Visiting during the early morning is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The cooler winter months are the most suitable season for outdoor exploration. The area can become crowded during local holidays and weekends.
