Plaza Independencia
What it is
Plaza Independencia is a large open plaza dating to the Spanish colonial period, sitting right at the edge of Cebu City's old fortified core. It's essentially green space and walkways rather than a garden attraction in itself — the appeal is the historical setting, with Fort San Pedro anchoring one side and mature trees offering shade. It's a place to walk through and rest rather than a destination with exhibits, so treat it as a companion stop to the fort and the nearby religious sites rather than a standalone draw.
Getting there
The plaza sits in the downtown waterfront area of Cebu City. From the city centre it's a short taxi or ride-hailing trip, usually well under 15 minutes depending on traffic, and jeepneys serving the downtown/pier routes pass nearby. If you're coming from Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB), allow roughly 30-45 minutes by car depending on traffic and time of day.

When to go
Early morning or late afternoon is more comfortable, since the area has little shade and can feel hot at midday. It's an open public space, so foot traffic varies with the time of day and local events rather than being consistently crowded.
