Kayman's Gate

Kayman's Gate is the site of a former entrance to the old Colombo Fort, located in the Pettah district. Today, a historic bell tower remains standing in the middle of the street. Visitors go here to see this architectural remnant of the city's colonial fortifications while observing the activity of the surrounding commercial area.

Getting There

The site is located within the Pettah district, a short distance from the central business district of Colombo. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short tuk-tuk or taxi ride, typically taking 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Time Requirement

Since the attraction consists of a street-side monument, it does not require a long visit. Allow 20 to 30 minutes to view the bell tower and take photographs.

When to Visit

The area is a bustling commercial hub and remains crowded throughout the day. To avoid the peak congestion of the shopping streets, visiting in the early morning is advisable. The weather in Colombo is tropical, so avoid midday heat when possible.
