Tomebamba River

The Tomebamba is a river that flows through the center of Cuenca. Travelers visit the riverbanks to walk along the water and view the city's architecture and landscape from a central vantage point. It eventually joins the Machángara River to form the Matadero River.

Getting There

Because the river runs directly through the heart of the city, it is accessible by foot from most central locations. Depending on your starting point in the city center, it takes only a few minutes to reach the banks.

Duration of Visit

The time spent here depends on how much of the riverbank you intend to walk. A casual stroll through the central sections typically takes between one and two hours.

When to Visit

The riverbanks are accessible throughout the day. Early morning and late afternoon are common times for walking. Like many central urban areas, the paths can become crowded during weekends and local holidays.
