Tomb of Balban

Located within the Mehrauli Archaeological Park in southern Delhi, this 13th-century structure is the burial site of Ghiyas ud din Balban. It is historically signifies a transition in Indo-Islamic architecture, as it contains the first true Islamic arch constructed in India.

Getting There

The site is accessible from Delhi's city centre via taxi or ride-sharing apps. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey typically takes between 30 to 60 minutes. The nearest major transit hub for international arrivals is Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 45 to 90 minutes to explore the tomb and the immediate surrounding ruins within the park.

When to Visit

The site is outdoors and exposed to the elements. Visiting during the cooler months from November to February is advisable to avoid extreme heat. Early morning or late afternoon is preferred for better lighting and temperature. It generally does not experience the same level of crowding as the major monuments in the city.
