About the Museum

The Bangabandhu Memorial Museum is the preserved private residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh's founding president. Designated as a national heritage site, this building is where the national flag was first raised prior to the independence war. Travellers visit to view the preserved living spaces, personal belongings, and exhibits documenting key political events surrounding the country's founding.

Getting There

Located in the Dhanmondi area, the site can be reached from Dhaka's central districts by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or ride-hailing applications. Depending on city traffic, transit from central areas such as Motijheel usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes.

Time to Spend

Allow roughly 1 to 1.5 hours to walk through the multi-story house, view the historical items, and read the informational displays.

When to Visit

The dry, cooler months between November and February offer the most comfortable conditions for travelling around Dhaka. Visiting in the morning helps minimise travel delays caused by afternoon traffic. The site tends to become crowded on weekends and national holidays due to local visitors and group tours.

Nearby Attractions

The visit can be paired with other destinations within a short radius:

  • Dhanmondi Lake (0.7km): A public waterfront area with walking pathways.
  • Novo Theatre, Dhaka (1.7km): A planetarium and science exhibition facility.
  • Holy Rosary Church (1.8km): A historic Catholic church located in Tejgaon.
  • Saat Masjid (1.9km): A historic Mughal-era mosque.
