Buriganga River
Overview
The Buriganga River flows through southern Dhaka and historically served as a key reason the city was chosen as the capital of Bengal during the Mughal era. Travellers visit its waterfront to observe Bangladesh's busy river transport network in action, particularly around Sadarghat, the country's central boat terminal filled with passenger ferries, cargo vessels, and small wooden rowboats.
Getting There
From central Dhaka, reaching the waterfront by taxi, CNG auto-rickshaw, or cycle rickshaw takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes, depending on Old Dhaka traffic conditions.
