About the Monument

Shaheed Minar is a national monument in Dhaka built to honor the activists who lost their lives during the 1952 Bengali Language Movement protests. It represents a foundational chapter in the history of Bangladesh, serving as a focal point for understanding the country's cultural identity and language rights movement.

Getting There

Situated in the Dhaka University area, the monument can be reached from central commercial areas such as Motijheel or Gulistan by cycle rickshaw, CNG auto-rickshaw, or taxi. Depending on local traffic conditions, the trip typically takes 20 to 45 minutes.

Suggested Duration

Allow approximately 30 to 45 minutes to view the main structure, explore the paved plaza, and examine the surrounding grounds.

When to Visit

Early mornings and late afternoons offer the most comfortable temperatures for walking around the outdoor site. The cooler, dry winter months from November to February provide the best conditions for travel in the city. The area becomes exceptionally crowded during national commemorative events in late February, particularly on February 21 for International Mother Language Day.
