What It Is

East-Link is a bascule bridge crossing the lower River Liffey, connecting North Wall and Ringsend. As the final bridge before Dublin Port, it offers clear views across the working docks, river channel, and port facilities.

Getting There

From central Dublin, walking east along the river quays takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Public buses and Luas tram lines connect the city centre to the Docklands area in about 15 to 20 minutes.

Time to Spend

Allow 15 to 30 minutes to cross the walkway, view the river traffic, and observe the surrounding port area.

When to Visit

Daylight hours provide the best visibility across the harbor. Weekday morning and evening commuter hours bring heavy vehicle traffic and noise, so midday or weekend visits offer a calmer walk. The open position near the bay is exposed to coastal winds, particularly during autumn and winter.

What to Combine It With

Nearby sights within walking distance include:

  • River Dodder (0.2km): Joins the Liffey immediately south of the bridge.
  • River Tolka (1.5km): Located to the north through the East Wall area.
  • Merrion Square (1.6km): A historic Georgian square southwest of the docks.
  • National Gallery of Ireland (1.8km): Located just west of Merrion Square.
