Inchmickery

Inchmickery is a small island located in the Firth of Forth, approximately 3 km north of Edinburgh. It is primarily visited by those interested in maritime geography and coastal views. While the island is not a traditional tourist destination with developed facilities, it is frequently viewed from the shoreline for its distinct silhouette against the horizon.

Getting There

The island is not connected to be accessed by foot. To view it from the coast, travel north from Edinburgh city centre toward the Cramond area. Depending on the mode of transport, this journey typically takes 20 to 40 minutes.

Time Allocation

Since the island is primarily a visual landmark viewed from the shore, allow 1 to 2 hours to explore the coastal vantage points and the surrounding shoreline.

When to Visit

The best time to visit the coast for viewing is during the day when visibility is clear. Coastal weather in Scotland is variable, so check local forecasts for fog or heavy rain. The area does not typically experience the same level of crowding as the city centre.

Nearby Attractions

You can combine a visit to the coast with other nearby sites:

  • Cramond Island (2.2 km)
  • Inchcolm (2.6 km)
  • River Almond (3.9 km)
  • Lauriston Castle (4.4 km)
