About the Mosque
The Bou Jeloud Mosque is an Almohad-era religious site located in the old Kasbah quarter of Fez, near the Bab Boujloud gate. Situated at the western entrance to the medina, it represents early Islamic architecture in the city and serves as a practical orientation landmark before exploring the pedestrian alleys of Fes el-Bali.
Getting There
From the Ville Nouvelle city centre, the site is approximately 4 to 5 kilometres away. A standard petit taxi ride takes around 10 to 15 minutes to reach the main drop-off point outside Bab Boujloud.
Time to Allow
Budget around 15 to 30 minutes to view the exterior architecture, minaret, and surrounding square.
When to Visit
Visiting in the morning allows you to view the structure before the surrounding plaza fills with pedestrian traffic. The area becomes noticeably crowded from mid-afternoon through the evening. Spring and autumn provide the most comfortable walking temperatures.
