The Żuraw (The Crane)
The Żuraw is a medieval port crane and city gate located on the Motława River. It served as a tool for loading cargo and stepping masts onto ships, it is one of the oldest and largest surviving harbor cranes from medieval Europe. Visitors go here to see the historic wooden mechanism and the architecture of the old port area.
Getting There
The crane is located along the waterfront, within walking distance of the main city centre. From the Long Market (Długi Targ), it takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to walk toward the riverbank.
Time Commitment
Allow roughly 45 to 90 minutes to explore the structure and the immediate surrounding quay, depending on whether you enter the interior or simply view it from the outside.
When to Visit
The area is popular with tourists and can get crowded, especially during the summer months and on weekends. Visiting during weekday mornings typically avoids the largest crowds. The site is accessible year-round, though the riverfront is most active during the warmer seasons.
