Overview

Khoo Kongsi is a historic Hokkien clan complex in George Town featuring an ornate clan temple, a traditional opera stage, and preserved 19th-century row houses. Travellers visit to examine traditional southern Chinese architecture, intricate stone and wood carvings, roof ornamentation, and clan history exhibits.

Getting There

The complex is located near Cannon Square in George Town's historic centre. Walking from central areas such as Armenian Street takes 5 to 10 minutes. Taxis and ride-hailing cars can drop passengers off along Lebuh Cannon.

Time to Allow

Plan for 45 to 60 minutes to tour the courtyard, explore the ground-floor museum, and view the decorative carvings in the main hall.

When to Visit

Morning and late afternoon visits are best to avoid midday heat in the open courtyards. Midday can bring tour group crowds, so arriving early offers a quieter experience.
