Vrijdagmarkt is one of the oldest squares in the historic center of Ghent, Belgium. Its name originates from the market that has traditionally been held there every Friday. Visitors go here to see the surrounding historic architecture and experience a central hub of the city's civic history.

Getting There

The square is located within the pedestrian-friendly old town. From the city center, it is accessible via a short walk of approximately 5 to 10 minutes, depending on your starting point.

Time Requirement

Allow 30 to 60 minutes to walk around the perimeter and observe the square. If you plan to sit at one of the surrounding cafes, you may wish to allocate more time.

When to Visit

The square is active throughout the day. Visiting on a Friday allows you to see the market for which it is named. Like most central locations in Ghent, it can get crowded during weekends and peak tourist seasons.
