Overview

Playa de Getares is a coastal beach stretching about 1.5 kilometers along the Bay of Gibraltar, south of Algeciras. Travellers visit primarily for walking along the waterfront, relaxation, and open sea views across the bay.

Getting There

The beach is reachable from the city center in about 10 to 15 minutes by car, taxi, or local bus. Travelers arriving from Gibraltar Airport (GIB) can reach the area by road in roughly 35 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic and border crossing times.

Recommended Time

Plan to spend 1 to 2 hours here. A stroll along the full 1.5-kilometer length takes around 30 minutes, with extra time needed if you plan to swim or sit along the shore.

When to Visit

Summer provides warm weather for swimming, though the shore becomes crowded on weekend afternoons. Mornings and late afternoons are quieter and cooler. Expect stronger winds during autumn and winter.
