German Church

The German Church is a historic place of worship in Gothenburg that opened in 1748. It was established to serve the German and Dutch immigrant communities living in the city. Visitors go here to see the architecture and listen to the carillon, which consists of 42 bells cast in 1961.

Getting There

The church is located in the heart of the city centre. It is accessible via a short walk from the main shopping and transit hubs. Depending on your starting point in the central district, it typically takes less than 10 minutes to reach on foot.

Time Allocation

Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to explore the interior and the surrounding grounds. If you are visiting specifically to hear the carillon, check the local schedule for bell ringing times.

When to Visit

The site is generally quiet, though it may become busier during religious services or city festivals. Visiting during the weekday mornings often provides a more tranquil experience. There are no specific seasonal restrictions, though winter visits are shorter due to limited daylight.
