Buchkogel is a 656-meter hill located in the Grazer Bergland to the west of Graz. It is a recreation area characterized by mixed forests along the Plabutsch ridge. Visitors go here for hiking and to access the observation tower built in 1879, which provides a vantage point over the city of Graz.
Getting There
The hill is located west of the city centre. Access is typically via local transport or car, followed by a walk through the forest trails to reach the summit. Depending on the starting point and pace, allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to reach the area from the centre.
Time Requirement
Allow 2 to 4 hours for a visit. This includes the time needed to hike up the ridge, spend time at the observation tower, and return to the trailhead.
When to Visit
The area is best visited during the spring, summer, and autumn when the forest trails are accessible. Morning visits are recommended to avoid midday heat during summer. As a popular local recreation spot, the trails can become crowded on weekends and public holidays.
