Long Bien Bridge

This 1.68-kilometer steel bridge spans the Red River, connecting downtown Hanoi with the northern districts to the north. Travelers visit this site to see a piece of the city's modern history and to observe the daily activity of the river and the surrounding railway lines.

Getting There

The bridge is located east of Long Bien Station. From the city center, it is accessible via taxi or ride-sharing services. Depending on traffic conditions, the trip typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk across sections of the bridge and observe the views of the Red River and the urban landscape.

When to Visit

Early morning is a common time for visitors to avoid the midday heat and see local vendors. The bridge can become crowded with motorbikes and pedestrians during peak commuting hours. Visiting during the cooler autumn or winter months is generally more comfortable for walking.

Nearby Attractions

The bridge can be combined with other local sites based on proximity:

  • Dong Xuan Market (1.1km): A large traditional market for shopping and local food.
  • Chương Dương Bridge (0.6km): Another crossing over the Red River.
  • Red River Delta (1.4km): The surrounding river plains and agricultural areas.
  • The Huc Bridge (1.5km): A small wooden bridge located in the Hoan Kiem Lake area.
