What It Is

Hagios Titos is an Orthodox church in Heraklion, Crete. It has an unusual history, having been built as a mosque in 1869 before being converted into a church in 1925. Travellers visit to see its distinct architectural blend reflecting Crete's past and to view the interior within its public square.

The site is in Heraklion's pedestrian old town. From central areas like the harbour, it takes roughly 5 to 10 minutes on foot. From Heraklion International Airport (HER), public buses and taxis reach the centre in about 15 minutes.

Allow 20 to 30 minutes. This is sufficient to view the exterior architecture, step inside the building, and explore the adjacent plaza.

When to Go

Visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the summer heat. The square can get crowded during peak tourist months and during Sunday services. Modest attire is recommended when entering.
