Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
This park was established to commemorate the victims of the atomic bomb and to serve as a symbol of world peace. Visitors go here to reflect on the events of 1945 and view monuments such as the cenotaph, the Peace Bell, and the statue of Sadako Sasaki. The Atomic Bomb Dome, a remnant of the city's destruction, is located immediately adjacent to the park grounds.
Getting There
The park is centrally located in Hiroshima. From the city center or the main transit hubs, it is accessible via the local streetcar (Hiroden) or by walking. Depending on your starting point in the downtown area, the trip typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.
Duration of Visit
Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the grounds and visit the various monuments. If you plan to enter the nearby museum, you will need additional time.
When to Visit
The park is open to the public throughout the year. It can become crowded during national holidays and during the anniversary of the bombing in August. Early morning or late afternoon visits generally offer a quieter environment for reflection.
