Ninoshima

Ninoshima is the largest island under the jurisdiction of Hiroshima City, located in the Seto Inland Sea within Hiroshima Bay. Travelers visit this island primarily for outdoor activities centered on nature, such as hiking to the summit of Mt. Akinokofuji or viewing the scenery of the surrounding inland sea.

Getting There

Access to the island is via ferry from the Hiroshima city center. The travel time varies depending on the ferry schedule and departure point, but typically takes approximately one hour to reach the island's shores.

Duration of Visit

Depending on the planned activity, visitors should allow between four to six hours. This provides sufficient time for a round-trip hike to the highest peak and a walk along the coastline.

When to Visit

The island is best visited during the spring and autumn months when temperatures are moderate for hiking. Morning arrivals are recommended to maximize daylight for outdoor exploration. As a nature-focused destination away from the main urban hubs, it does not typically experience the same level of crowding as central city attractions.

Combining with Other Sites

Due to its location, the island can be paired with other coastal or riverside sites in the region. Nearby options include:

  • Kanawajima (5.2km)
  • Hiroshima City Ebayama Museum of Meteorology (6.2km)
  • Ōta River (6.2km)
  • Kyōbashi River (6.6km)
