Tai Mo Shan

Tai Mo Shan is the highest peak in Hong Kong, reaching an elevation of 957 meters. Travelers visit this location for hiking and to experience temperatures that are typically lower than those in the urban areas of the territory.

Getting There

Access from the peak from the city centre via taxi or private vehicle, as there is no direct train station at the summit. The journey generally takes between 45 to 90 minutes depending on traffic and your starting point in the city.

Duration of Visit

Allow 3 to 5 hours for a visit. This provides enough time to reach the summit, walk along the ridgelines, and return to the transport drop-off point.

When to Visit

The area is most comfortable during the autumn and winter months when the air is cooler. Early morning visits are recommended to avoid midday heat and potential fog. The summit can become crowded during public holidays and weekends.

Nearby Attractions

You can combine a trip to the peak with visits to other sites in the New Territories. Nearby locations include:

  • Nina Tower (4.9km)
  • Shing Mun River (6.2km)
  • Ting Kau Bridge (6.9km)
  • Sha Tin (7.4km)
