Immanuel Church
What It Is
Immanuel Church is one of Indonesia's oldest Protestant churches, located in Jakarta's Gambir district. The church is notable for continuing to hold services in Dutch alongside Indonesian and English. Travellers visit to see its historic architecture and experience its multilingual religious heritage.
Getting There
Located in Central Jakarta directly opposite Gambir station, the church is straightforward to reach from the city centre. A taxi or ride-hailing ride from central districts typically takes around 10 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Time to Allow
Plan to spend 30 to 45 minutes to view the building. If you intend to attend one of the church services, allocate roughly 1 to 1.5 hours.
When to Visit
Morning visits are preferable to avoid the midday heat. The site gets crowded on Sundays during regular service times. Visitors interested in a quieter look at the building should plan for a weekday visit.
What to Combine It With
Its central location allows you to easily connect your visit with surrounding attractions:
- National Gallery of Indonesia (0.2km)
- Merdeka Square (0.6km)
- National Monument of Indonesia (0.6km)
- Museum of National Awakening (0.7km)
