Jakarta Cathedral

What It Is

Jakarta Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church in central Jakarta and the seat of the Archdiocese of Jakarta. Designed in a neo-Gothic style with tall spires and stained glass, it offers travellers a view of historic European religious architecture and insight into Indonesia's Catholic community.

Getting There

Located in Central Jakarta, the site can be reached from the city centre by taxi, ride-hailing app, or TransJakarta bus in roughly 10 to 25 minutes, depending on road traffic.

Time to Allow

Plan for 30 to 45 minutes to view the sanctuary interior and walk the grounds.

When to Go

Mornings are preferable for cooler temperatures and fewer visitors. The building gets crowded during Sunday services and religious holidays, when sightseeing inside may be restricted.

What to Combine It With

Several notable sights are within walking distance or a short drive:

  • Istiqlal Mosque (0.3km): Located directly across the road.
  • Immanuel Church (0.8km): A historic church to the south.
  • Merdeka Square (0.9km): The city's main public square.
  • National Monument of Indonesia (1km): Situated inside Merdeka Square.
