B. B. D. Bagh
What to Expect
B. B. D. Bagh, formerly Dalhousie Square, is the historic administrative and financial center of Kolkata. Visitors come to take self-guided walking tours around its colonial-era civic buildings, notably the Writers' Building and Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the governor.
Getting There
Located directly in central Kolkata, the area is accessible in about 5 to 10 minutes from central transit hubs by foot, taxi, or local bus.
Time to Spend
Plan for 1 to 2 hours to walk past the major civic landmarks and explore the surrounding streets.
When to Go
The cooler months from November to February are best for outdoor walking. Early mornings and late afternoons are preferable to avoid midday heat. As a working business and government district, the streets and sidewalks become very crowded during weekday rush hours.
