Fort Gorazda

Fort Gorazda is an Austro-Hungarian fortress located on the hills above Kotor. Visitors go here to see the military architecture of the early 20th century, specifically the large rotating gun turret remaining on the roof and the physical damage sustained during World War I.

Getting There

The fort is located outside the old town center. It is accessible via a road that winds up the hillside. Depending on the mode of transport, the trip from the city center takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes by car or taxi. Those traveling on foot should allow more time due to the elevation gain.

Most visitors spend between 1 and 2 hours exploring the grounds and the turret area.

When to Visit

The site is open to the elements, so visiting during the spring or autumn avoids the peak summer heat. Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the strongest sun. Because it is less central than the old town, it generally does not experience the same level of crowding as the city center.
