Overview

Built in 1818 by Prince Miloš, Stara crkva is the oldest Orthodox church in Kragujevac. The site marks an important phase in the history of modern Serbia, offering a look at simple, traditional 19th-century church architecture.

Getting There

The church is situated near the city centre along the Lepenica River. From the central pedestrian zone, walking takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Travellers arriving from Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) can reach Kragujevac by road or bus, then walk to the site.

Allow about 30 to 45 minutes to view the building, courtyard, and architectural details.

When to Visit

Daylight hours in the morning or early afternoon are best for viewing the exterior. The site is rarely crowded, though attendance increases during religious services and holidays. Spring and autumn provide mild walking weather.
