The Petronas Twin Towers

The Petronas Twin Towers are Kuala Lumpur's defining landmark: two 88-storey stainless-steel-and-glass towers completed in 1998, linked by a double-decker skybridge and still the tallest twin towers in the world. Most visitors come for the views from the upper floors, or simply to see the towers up close from the park at their base.

Getting there

The towers sit in the KLCC district, a short ride from most parts of central Kuala Lumpur. The KLCC LRT and MRT station opens directly into the basement of the complex, making it the easiest approach if you're coming from the Golden Triangle or Bukit Bintang area — typically 10-15 minutes by train. By taxi or ride-hailing from central KL, allow a similar amount of time, more if traffic is heavy.

How long to spend

Visiting the skybridge and observation deck usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, including queueing. If you're only walking through KLCC Park and viewing the towers from outside, an hour is enough.

When to go

The towers and surrounding park are busiest in the late afternoon and evening, when visitors gather for photos as the towers light up after dark. Mornings tend to be quieter. Ticket slots for the observation deck are timed and often sell out, so it's worth planning ahead rather than turning up and expecting immediate entry.

Combine it with

Everything nearby is within a few minutes' walk. Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) itself, with its park, shopping mall, and aquarium, is right at the towers' base (0.4km). The Petronas Philharmonic Hall and Petronas Tower 3 are essentially on the same site (0-0.1km), and Maxis Tower is just across the plaza (0.2km) — all easy to fold into the same visit without extra travel time.
