Vasikkasaari
Vasikkasaari
Vasikkasaari is a small island located in Lake Kallavesi, situated just off the downtown area of Kuopio. Visitors go here for outdoor recreation, particularly during the winter months. The island features a shelter where people gather around campfires to warm up and grill sausages.
Getting There
The island is located very close to the city centre. In winter, it is accessible by skating or skiing across the frozen surface of the lake. In other seasons, access depends on local water transport. The journey from the downtown area takes only a few minutes.
Duration of Visit
Depending on the activity, visitors typically spend between one and three hours on the island, allowing time to use the shelter and enjoy the lakeside environment.
When to Visit
Winter is the primary season for visiting, as the ice allows for direct travel from the shore. It is a popular destination for cold-weather outings, and the area can become crowded during weekends or holidays when locals gather for grilling.
