NITEL Building
NITEL Building
The NITEL Building is a 32-story skyscraper located in Lagos. Completed in 1979, it was once the tallest building in West Africa. Visitors typically visit to view the architecture and the communications tower on the roof, which functions as a lighthouse for the Lagos Harbour.
Getting There
The building is situated within the central business district of Lagos Island. From the city center, it is accessible via short taxi or ride-share trips. Travel time varies significantly based on local traffic conditions but generally takes a few minutes if starting from nearby central hubs.
Duration of Visit
Since the primary interest is the exterior architecture and its role as a landmark, most visitors spend between 30 minutes and one hour at the site.
When to Visit
Visiting during daylight hours is recommended to clearly see the structure and the lighthouse tower. Like most areas in the central business district, the surrounding streets can become very crowded during weekday business hours.
Nearby Attractions
Due to its central location, the building can be combined with several other sites within walking distance:
- Freedom Park (0.3km)
- Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Lagos (0.4km)
- Tafawa Balewa Square (0.4km)
- Nigerian National Museum, Lagos (0.7km)
