What It Is

Located in Keshav Narayan Chowk, a former royal palace courtyard of the Malla dynasty, Patan Museum displays traditional Nepali religious art. The exhibits feature Hindu and Buddhist bronze sculptures, sacred ritual objects, and historical architectural woodwork, providing clear context on the religious heritage and craftsmanship of the Kathmandu Valley.

Getting There

The site is in Lalitpur, situated immediately south of central Kathmandu across the Bagmati River. A taxi from central Kathmandu takes roughly 20 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Local buses and microbuses also run regularly between central Kathmandu and Patan.

Time to Allow

Plan to spend between 1.5 and 2 hours to view the indoor exhibitions and explore the courtyard.

When to Visit

Visiting in the morning offers a quieter experience before larger tour groups arrive. Autumn and spring provide pleasant temperatures for walking around the complex. The indoor galleries can feel crowded around midday during peak travel seasons.
