Overview

Lousonna contains the excavated remains of an ancient Roman settlement that stood on this site before Lausanne was founded. Located in the lakeside Vidy area, the archaeological grounds feature exposed stone foundations of residential quarters and the Roman forum. Visitors go to trace the region's earliest urban roots and examine preserved Roman stonework.

Getting There

From Lausanne city centre, the site is reachable in roughly 15 to 20 minutes. Local buses and metro routes run towards Vidy, followed by a short walk through the park to the ruins.

Time to Allow

Set aside 45 minutes to 1 hour to walk around the excavated structures and read the posted informational markers.

When to Go

Plan your visit for daylight hours in dry weather, as the site is completely outdoors. Spring to autumn provides the best conditions for walking the grounds. The ruins rarely get crowded, although the adjacent lakeside park attracts higher foot traffic on sunny weekends.
