Montagne du Château

Overview

Montagne du Château is the highest hill in the Jorat region, located above Lausanne. Apart from an open clearing at its summit, the area is covered in forest, making it a destination for hiking, trail running, and nature walks along wooded paths.

Getting There

From central Lausanne, public transport takes roughly 25 to 35 minutes via metro and connecting local bus routes heading north. By car, the trip takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Time to Spend

Plan for 1.5 to 3 hours. This allows enough time to hike a loop trail and take a break at the summit clearing.

When to Visit

Spring through autumn offers the best conditions for walking. The site does not get heavily crowded, though local runners and walkers use the trails on sunny weekends. Avoid visits during heavy rain or storms, when unpaved paths can turn muddy and slick.

Nearby Sights

You can pair a visit with nearby locations:

  • Le Chalet-à-Gobet (2.2km): Outdoor recreation area with additional forest routes.
  • Vuachère (5.8km): Valley trail along a natural stream.
  • Aquatis (6.3km): Freshwater aquarium and vivarium.
  • Flon (6.8km): Central urban district with transit connections and dining.
