Government Palace

The Government Palace is the official seat of the Peruvian government and the residence of the president. Located in the historic center of Lima, the site was originally designed with the involvement of Francisco Pizarro, leading to its association with the name "Casa de Pizarro." Visitors go here to view the architecture of the administrative center and observe the changing of the guard ceremony.

Getting There

The palace is situated directly within the city centre. If you are staying in the central district, it is accessible by walking. From other parts of Lima, taxis or ride-sharing services are the standard transport method to reach the Plaza Mayor area.

Time Allocation

Allow approximately one to two hours for a visit. This provides enough time to view the exterior and watch the ceremonial guard activities.

When to Visit

The area becomes crowded during the changing of the guard and on national holidays. To avoid the largest crowds, visit during weekday mornings. The weather in Lima is generally mild year-round, though the city is often overcast from June to October.
