Arch. Plečnik's Marketplace
What It Is
Designed by architect Jože Plečnik, this marketplace stretches along the Ljubljanica River between the Triple Bridge and Dragon Bridge. It features a monumental covered colonnade alongside open-air stalls. Visitors come to view Plečnik's classical-inspired architecture and browse local produce, flowers, and food items.
Getting There
The site sits directly in central Ljubljana. From Prešeren Square, it takes roughly two to three minutes on foot along the riverbank.
Time to Allow
Allow 30 to 45 minutes to walk through the covered arcade, look at the river views, and explore the outdoor stalls.
When to Go
Mornings offer the liveliest atmosphere with active vendor stalls. Saturday mornings are typically the most crowded. For a quieter walk focused primarily on the architecture, visit on weekday mornings or late afternoons.
What to Combine It With
You can easily pair a visit with nearby points of interest:
- Butchers' Bridge (0km) – Directly connects to the market arcade.
- Ljubljana Cathedral (0.1km) – Sits immediately behind the market square.
- Dragon Bridge (0.1km) – Located at the eastern end of the colonnade.
