Wat Visounarath

Wat Visounarath is one of the oldest temples in Luang Prabang. It is characterized by a large, watermelon-shaped stupa and an antique wooden ordination hall. Visitors go here to see the traditional Lao architectural style and the distinct shape of the central monument.

Getting There

The temple is located within the peninsula of the city centre. It is accessible via a short walk or a tuk-tuk ride from the main street, typically taking about 5 to 10 minutes depending on your starting point.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to walk around the grounds, observe the stupa, and visit the wooden hall.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site can get crowded during peak tourist seasons or during local religious festivals. As this is an active religious site, modest dress covering shoulders and knees is required.
