Overview

The White Ernz is a river flowing through the Larochette and Medernach areas of Luxembourg before joining the Sûre. Travelers visit to walk along the riverbanks and explore the 14th-century ruins of Larochette Castle situated along the valley.

Getting There

From Luxembourg City centre, the area is reachable by car in about 30 to 40 minutes heading northeast. Regional public buses also connect the capital to towns along the river in approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

Plan for 2 to 3 hours. A standard riverside walk takes about an hour, while visiting the castle ruins and extending along trail routes requires additional time.

When to Go

Spring through autumn provides the most reliable conditions for walking. Visit during daylight hours because rural paths are not illuminated. The area is generally uncrowded, though weekend foot traffic increases slightly.
