Château de Pierre Scize
Overview
Château de Pierre Scize is the site of a former fortress in Lyon. Originally constructed on a rock cliff above the Saône, it served as a defensive stronghold and prison before its demolition. Today, travellers visit to see the remnants of its stone walls, which provide physical evidence of the medieval fortification system of old Lyon.
Getting There
From the city centre, the site is reachable on foot in roughly 15 to 20 minutes by walking north along the river quays from Vieux Lyon or the Presqu'île. Local buses running along the right bank of the Saône also reach the area in about 10 minutes.
Visiting Time
Allow approximately 30 to 45 minutes to inspect the stone remnants and view the river passage.
When to Visit
Visit during daylight hours to see the masonry clearly and navigate outdoor paths safely. Dry weather is recommended since the site is entirely outdoors. It is rarely crowded, making it a peaceful stop compared to central districts.
