Metallic Tower of Fourvière

This 101-meter steel observation tower is a landmark of Lyon, designed with a structure similar to the Eiffel Tower. Travelers visit this site primarily for the elevated vantage point, as its height makes it visible from most parts of the city and provides a wide view of the surrounding urban landscape.

Getting There

The tower is located on the Fourvière hill. From the city centre, the most common way to reach the area is by taking the funicular (cable railway) from the Vieux Lyon station up to the top of the hill. The journey takes a few minutes, followed by a short walk to the tower.

Duration of Visit

Depending on whether you choose to ascend the tower or simply view it from the ground, allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes for this specific stop.

When to Visit

The site is accessible throughout the year. Visiting during the late afternoon or evening allows you to see the city lights. Like most major landmarks in Lyon, it can get crowded during peak tourist seasons and weekends.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its location on the hill, the tower can be combined with several other sites within walking distance:

  • Fourvière (0.1km)
  • Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière (0.2km)
  • Château de Pierre Scize (0.3km)
  • Gadagne museums (0.4km)
