Alto de Coloane

Alto de Coloane is the highest point in Macau, reaching an elevation of 172.4 meters on Coloane Island. Travelers visit this peak primarily for hiking and to obtain a panoramic view of the Macau peninsula and the surrounding islands from the summit.

Getting There

The peak is located on the southern end of the territory. From the Macau city centre, you can reach the area via public bus or taxi. The journey typically takes 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic conditions and the specific departure point in the city.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours for a visit. This includes the time required to hike up the trail to the summit and the return descent.

When to Visit

The best time to visit is during the cooler months or in the early morning to avoid midday heat. As it is a natural hiking spot rather than a commercial tourist hub, it generally does not experience the same level of crowding as the Cotai Strip, though weekends may see more local visitors.

Combining with Other Attractions

Because of its location on Coloane Island, this site can be paired with other nearby points of interest:

  • Coloane Village (0.4km): A short distance from the base of the peak.
  • Our Lady of Carmel Church (3.3km): A historic site located within the village area.
  • Macao Studio City (1.9km) and The Venetian Macao (2.8km): Large-scale resorts located a short drive away toward the Cotai area.
