About the Garden

Lou Lim Ioc Garden is a public park located in Macau's São Lázaro district. Built in 1906 by merchant Lou Kau as part of his private residential estate, the grounds were designed in the classical Suzhou garden style and opened as a public park in 1974. Travelers visit to see traditional Chinese landscape elements, including lotus ponds, stone bridges, rockeries, bamboo groves, and classical pavilions.

Getting There

From central Macau around Senado Square, the grounds are reachable on foot in roughly 15 to 20 minutes walking northeast. Local city buses and taxis reach the São Lázaro area from the centre in approximately 10 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Time to Spend

Plan to spend between 30 and 45 minutes exploring the footpaths, courtyards, and pond perimeter.

When to Visit

Early mornings are ideal for observing local residents practicing tai chi in a quiet environment. The park can become crowded during weekend afternoons and public holidays. During the summer months, lotus flowers bloom in the main pond, though visiting early or late in the day helps avoid peak midday heat and humidity.

Nearby Attractions

A visit can easily be combined on foot with several surrounding points of interest:

  • Zhongshan Island (0.1 km)
  • St. Lazarus' Church (0.4 km)
  • Guia Fortress (0.5 km)
  • Templo de Kun Iam Tong (0.6 km)
