About the Site

St. Paul's Church is a historic ruin located atop St. Paul's Hill in Malacca. Considered the oldest European building east of India, the site features weathered stone walls and Dutch tombstones set inside the nave. Travellers visit to see the colonial architecture and look out over the city and the sea.

Getting There

The site sits in central Malacca. Walking from the town centre to the base takes about 5 to 10 minutes. A flight of stone stairs leads up the hill, requiring roughly 5 minutes of uphill walking.

Suggested Duration

Plan to spend 30 to 45 minutes. This allows enough time to climb the hill, walk through the ruins, inspect the tombstones, and take in the view.

When to Visit

Go during the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat, as the hilltop has little shade. The area gets crowded during midday hours and on weekends when tour groups arrive.
