Overview

Whalley Range is a residential area located southwest of Manchester city centre. Developed by businessman Samuel Brooks, it is one of the city's oldest suburbs. Travellers visit to stroll along its old streets and observe traces of its early suburban development and architecture.

Getting There

From Manchester city centre, local buses travel southwest to the area in about 15 to 25 minutes. A taxi ride or bicycle trip takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic.

Allow 1 to 2 hours to walk through the residential streets and see the historic houses.

When to Visit

Daylight hours are best for viewing the buildings and walking safely. Spring and summer provide the best conditions for outdoor strolls. The area rarely sees heavy tourist crowds, though weekday commuting hours bring regular local traffic.
